Wolf

Wolves can look remarkably still when they are simply standing together, but spend a few minutes watching a pack and the social details start to emerge. One wolf may follow another, pause to sniff the ground, or raise its ears toward a distant sound while the rest of the group carries on. Their body language does much of the talking. Tail position, posture, facial expressions, and subtle movements help wolves coordinate and maintain relationships within the pack. A large exhibit with room to roam also gives you a chance to see how efficiently they move. Wolves can cover long distances while traveling through their territory, often keeping a steady, ground-eating pace rather than sprinting. Their thick coats vary widely in color, from pale gray and cream to brown, black, or almost white, depending on the region and individual. If a wolf begins howling, watch the others closely. Some may join in, while others simply lift their heads and listen, creating a glimpse of the communication that helps hold a pack together.
