A 200-acre Black Hills wildlife park built around a three-mile drive-through route, where visitors can see black bears, elk, bison, mountain lions, and wolves from their vehicles before exploring a separate wildlife walkway.
Bear Country U.S.A. is a drive-through wildlife park in the Black Hills near Rapid City, spread across more than 200 acres of pine forests and rolling meadows. Its three-mile route takes visitors through spacious animal areas where North American wildlife can be viewed from inside a vehicle. Black bears are a major focus, joined by mountain lions, timber wolves, bison, elk, reindeer, bighorn sheep, pronghorn, and other species. The vehicle-based format creates a different experience from a conventional zoo, with animals roaming across larger outdoor spaces along the route.
The admission experience continues on foot at a separate quarter-mile Wildlife Walkway featuring additional animals in smaller habitats. Visitors can see species including river otters, bobcats, badgers, porcupines, prairie dogs, red foxes, and timber wolves. The park prohibits feeding and touching animals and requires visitors to remain inside their vehicles during the drive-through portion, keeping the focus on observation. Bear Country U.S.A. suits travelers looking for a straightforward wildlife safari experience centered on North American animals, scenic Black Hills surroundings, and viewing wildlife from the comfort of a vehicle.
