Privacy Policy

Last updated August 31, 2026

ZooHopper is operated by Design Lab LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company ("ZooHopper," "we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy describes the information ZooHopper collects, why we use it, what may be publicly visible, and the choices available to you. ZooHopper is currently in beta. We will update this policy as our practices and the platform change.

1. Information you give us

Depending on how you use ZooHopper, we may collect the following information.

Account and authentication information

We collect your email address and information necessary to authenticate your account. Authentication is handled through our service providers.

If you sign in using Google, we receive the basic account information Google provides for authentication.

ZooHopper does not store your account password itself.

Profile information

We collect information you choose to add to your profile, including your username, first name, home state and profile photo.

Visits

We store the destinations you mark as visited and information associated with that activity, such as when the visit was added to your Passport.

Wishlist

We store destinations you save to your wishlist.

Community photo submissions

When you upload photos, we may store the image files and technical information associated with those uploads, including image dimensions, file size, an image fingerprint used to help identify duplicate uploads, moderation status and information connecting the submission to your account.

Achievement activity

We store information about achievements associated with your account, including which achievements you have earned, when they were earned and whether an achievement celebration has already been shown to you.

Suggested edits

When you suggest a correction, we may collect the content being corrected, issue type, written details you provide, an optional source URL, the ZooHopper page from which you submitted the suggestion, and your account information so we can review the contribution or follow up when necessary.

2. Information collected automatically

When you use ZooHopper, certain technical and usage information may be collected automatically by ZooHopper and the service providers that help us operate, secure, analyze and troubleshoot the service.

This may include information such as your browser and device type, operating system, pages viewed, referring page, approximate geographic information derived from your network connection, session information, timestamps, technical identifiers, and information about errors or application performance.

3. How we use information

We use information to operate and improve ZooHopper, including to:

  • create and authenticate accounts;
  • display and maintain your Passport;
  • keep track of visits and wishlist destinations;
  • provide public profile and Passport features;
  • award achievements;
  • receive, moderate and publish community photos;
  • review suggested corrections;
  • understand how visitors use ZooHopper;
  • diagnose errors and technical problems;
  • improve site performance, usability and content;
  • prevent spam, fraud, misuse and security threats;
  • communicate with you about your account or the service; and
  • use community photos as permitted by our Terms of Use.

4. What is publicly visible

ZooHopper Passports are currently public. ZooHopper does not currently offer a private Passport option.

Depending on the information and activity associated with your account, your public Passport may display:

  • your username;
  • your first name, if provided;
  • your home state, if provided;
  • your profile photo;
  • destinations you have marked as visited;
  • visit counts;
  • destinations on your wishlist;
  • achievements you have earned; and
  • approved community photos, which may be attributed to your username.

Your email address, authentication credentials, pending or rejected photo submissions, and private account information are not displayed on your public Passport.

Suggested edit submissions are not publicly displayed as part of your Passport.

Because Passport information is public, you should only add profile information, visits, wishlist destinations, photos or other information that you are comfortable having publicly visible.

5. Cookies, browser storage and similar technologies

ZooHopper and its service providers use cookies, browser storage and similar technologies where necessary to operate and understand the service.

Authentication information may be stored locally in your browser to keep you signed in.

ZooHopper may also use local browser storage to remember interface choices, such as whether you have acknowledged photo submission terms.

Google Analytics may use cookies or similar identifiers to help us understand how visitors use ZooHopper.

ZooHopper does not currently display third-party advertising, and we do not use Google Analytics for advertising personalization.

6. Analytics

ZooHopper uses Google Analytics 4 to understand general site usage and improve the service.

Google Analytics may collect information about interactions with ZooHopper, such as pages viewed, session activity, browser or device information, referring information, approximate location and technical identifiers.

Our ZooHopper analytics implementation is not intended to send your ZooHopper account identity or email address to Google Analytics. We have also disabled Google Signals and advertising personalization in our implementation.

Information collected through Google Analytics is processed by Google subject to Google's applicable privacy terms and policies.

7. Error monitoring

ZooHopper uses Sentry to help identify application errors, crashes and technical problems.

Our Sentry implementation is configured to minimize collection of personal information. We do not use Sentry session replay, profiling or analytics tracking, and our implementation removes or avoids sending categories of sensitive information such as authentication data, cookies, request bodies and other unnecessary personal information where reasonably possible.

Technical information necessary to diagnose an error may still be processed by Sentry when an application problem occurs.

8. Service providers

We rely on third-party service providers to operate ZooHopper.

These currently include providers that support:

  • website hosting and application infrastructure;
  • database, authentication and file storage services, including Supabase;
  • Google sign-in and map services;
  • website analytics through Google Analytics; and
  • application error monitoring through Sentry.

These providers may process information on our behalf as necessary to provide their services.

We do not sell your personal information.

If we add new services that materially change how personal information is collected or used, we will update this Privacy Policy.

9. Data retention

We generally retain account information and related ZooHopper activity for as long as your account remains active or as reasonably necessary to operate ZooHopper.

This may include profile information, visits, wishlist activity, achievements, photo submissions and suggested corrections.

When you delete content using an available ZooHopper feature, or ask us to delete your account, we will remove the applicable information from active ZooHopper systems within a reasonable period. Account deletion requests are normally processed within 30 days.

Some information may remain temporarily in routine backups or be retained for longer when reasonably necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud or abuse, enforce our agreements, or protect the security and integrity of ZooHopper.

Previously published or distributed promotional uses of community content are addressed in our Terms of Use.

10. Security

ZooHopper uses technical and organizational measures intended to protect account and application data.

Access to ZooHopper data is restricted using database-level access controls designed so that members can normally read and change only records they are permitted to access.

Community photo files that are not intended for direct public storage access are stored using restricted storage and served through controlled access mechanisms.

No online service can be guaranteed completely secure. Please use a strong, unique password and contact support@zoohopper.com if you notice suspicious activity involving your account.

11. Your choices

You can update or remove certain profile information and activity through the features available in ZooHopper.

You can remove visits or wishlist entries and delete photo submissions where those controls are available.

ZooHopper does not currently provide self-service account deletion. To request access to or deletion of your account information, contact privacy@zoohopper.com or support@zoohopper.com.

Remember that ZooHopper Passports are public. Removing information from your Passport will remove it from active public display after the change is processed, subject to the retention considerations described above.

12. Children's privacy

ZooHopper is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you believe a child under 13 has created a ZooHopper account or provided personal information to us, contact privacy@zoohopper.com so we can investigate and take appropriate action.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as ZooHopper changes.

When we make changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. If a change materially affects how we collect, use or disclose personal information, we will provide additional notice where appropriate.
