A four-mile wildlife zoo built around large natural habitats, with more than 80 species, a petting zoo, animal feeding opportunities, and the option to explore its grounds on foot or by golf cart.
Shalom Wildlife Zoo is a family-owned wildlife destination in West Bend built around a four-mile route through large, naturalistic animal habitats. The sanctuary has operated since 1979 and cares for more than 80 species, creating a more open, landscape-oriented experience than a compact exhibit zoo. Wildlife viewing takes place along gravel roads and trails, with animals such as bison, brown bears, wolves, big cats, and other species occupying spacious outdoor areas.
The visit is designed around exploration rather than a short circuit of closely grouped exhibits. Guests can walk the grounds or rent a golf cart, while educational signs and learning centers provide information along the route. A petting zoo and designated animal-feeding areas add interactive elements, with feeding permitted only for animals identified by the zoo and using approved food. Shalom suits travelers who enjoy spending several hours outdoors and prefer expansive wildlife habitats, informal learning, and a slower-paced sanctuary-style experience over a conventional urban zoo layout.
