Zoo New York

Zoo New York is a regional zoo in Watertown's Thompson Park with a strong emphasis on wildlife native to New York State. Its history began with two white-tailed deer placed in the park in 1920, and the zoo has since developed into a nonprofit institution focused on conservation, education, and natural and cultural experiences. The collection includes both indigenous and exotic wildlife, while many animals arrived as rescues that could not safely return to the wild.

Visitors can encounter animals such as mountain lions, river otters, elk, and native birds, along with a Conservation Center featuring local wildlife, reptiles, and displays about invasive species in Northern New York. The zoo also maintains a Children's Farm with familiar domestic animals including goats, pigs, and chickens.
