Its deep blue and black feathers, vivid neck, and tall helmet-like casque give it a striking appearance, but the details become more interesting as you watch. The bird moves through its habitat with a deliberate stride, often lowering its head to investigate fruit or vegetation. Southern Cassowaries eat a wide variety of fruit and play an important role in spreading seeds through the rainforest.
