An African-inspired wildlife preserve in Sonoma County where guided open-air safaris travel among giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and other animals, complemented by walk-through wildlife areas and overnight stays in canvas tent cabins.
Safari West offers a safari-style wildlife experience in California’s Sonoma County, with more than 800 animals living across a largely undeveloped preserve. Instead of exploring primarily on foot, guests board customized open-air vehicles for guided drives through expansive areas inhabited by African wildlife. The preserve also offers overnight accommodations in canvas tent cabins, allowing travelers to extend the experience beyond a daytime tour.
Guided safaris travel among animals such as giraffes, rhinoceroses, zebras, Cape buffalo, wildebeest, and antelope, with guides adapting the commentary and pace to each group. Before or after the drive, guests can explore additional areas on foot, including an aviary and habitats for primates and cheetahs. The combination of vehicle-based wildlife viewing, walking areas, and optional overnight stays makes Safari West particularly suited to travelers seeking a more immersive, safari-oriented experience than a conventional exhibit-by-exhibit zoo visit.
