An interactive aquarium built around marine habitats, with a large living coral reef, shark and sea lion exhibits, African penguins, touch pools, and optional animal encounters that add a participatory element to the visit.
Long Island Aquarium combines a broad collection of marine life exhibits with an interactive approach to aquarium visiting. Themed around the Lost City of Atlantis, the facility includes more than 100 exhibits and experiences spanning aquatic habitats as well as selected terrestrial wildlife. Its setting along the Peconic River also gives the destination an outdoor dimension beyond the indoor aquarium galleries.
Highlights include a 120,000-gallon shark habitat, a large living coral reef display, African penguins, California sea lions, North American river otters, Amazon fish, and a range of smaller aquatic animals. Touch pools provide opportunities for hands-on exploration, while optional experiences can take the visit further through activities such as shark diving, penguin encounters, and snorkeling with tropical fish. The combination of conventional exhibits, interactive areas, and animal-focused programs makes Long Island Aquarium particularly suited to travelers who want more participation than a straightforward aquarium walk-through, while its mix of marine and freshwater habitats provides considerable variety within a single visit.
