Living Coast Discovery Center

Living Coast Discovery Center focuses on the wildlife and ecosystems of coastal Southern California, with its setting on the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge shaping much of the experience. Rather than presenting a broad collection of animals from around the world, the center emphasizes species connected to San Diego and its coastal habitats, combining indoor exhibits with outdoor aviaries, gardens, and wildlife viewing.

Highlights include a 21,000-gallon habitat for leopard sharks, rays, and other fishes, an interactive ray touch pool, and Turtle Lagoon, home to a green sea turtle. Raptor Row and Eagle Mesa feature native birds of prey, while a walk-through aviary recreates a tidal slough environment for shorebirds. More than a mile of trails extends from the center toward San Diego Bay, offering opportunities to spot wild birds and other local animals.
