Flint RiverQuarium

Flint RiverQuarium takes a distinctly regional approach to aquarium exhibits, tracing the Flint River from its headwaters through the watershed and toward the Gulf of Mexico. Its centerpiece is a recreated Blue Hole Spring containing 175,000 gallons of water, while the surrounding exhibits interpret aquatic habitats and wildlife found along the river's course. More than 100 species of native aquatic life are represented across the main exhibits, giving the aquarium a strong connection to Southwest Georgia and the broader river system.

The Flint River Gallery follows the river's progression through different habitats, using both freshwater and saltwater tanks to show how its waters connect with coastal environments. Other areas include Spring Run Creek, a hatchery, World of Water, and Cypress Creek Aviary, where visitors can see birds associated with surrounding wetlands and migratory routes. The collection includes native fish, turtles, alligators, amphibians, and other aquatic wildlife, while scheduled animal chats, tank talks, dive shows, and aviary feedings add interpretive elements to the visit. Its river-centered approach makes the aquarium especially suited to travelers interested in regional ecosystems rather than a broad collection of unrelated aquatic species.
