Albion, IN
A multispecies sanctuary in northern Indiana providing lifelong refuge for rescued and surrendered exotic animals, with guided tours that introduce visitors to individual residents and the realities of responsible animal care and sanctuary work.
Black Pine Animal Sanctuary is a nonprofit refuge in Albion, Indiana, providing lifelong homes for captive-raised exotic animals that have been surrendered or confiscated. The sanctuary is home to more than 80 animals representing more than 60 species, including big cats, bears, primates, wolves, foxes, reptiles, and birds. Unlike a conventional zoo, Black Pine does not buy, sell, breed, or trade its animal residents. Habitats include outdoor enclosures as well as dedicated buildings for primates, reptiles, and birds.
Visitors can explore the sanctuary through guided tours that share the individual histories of rescued residents while explaining their species, care, and the role of a true animal sanctuary. Enrichment tours offer another perspective by allowing guests to observe staff providing food and enrichment to animals such as big cats, bears, and primates. Educational field trips focus on the exotic pet trade, sanctuary life, and conservation issues, helping visitors understand why captive-raised exotic animals may need permanent refuge. The experience suits travelers interested in animal welfare and rescue, with the emphasis placed on observation, education, and the stories of individual residents.
