Waikiki Aquarium

Waikīkī Aquarium is a compact marine attraction with a strong emphasis on Hawaiʻi and the tropical Pacific. Its galleries recreate a range of local marine environments, from wave-battered rocky shorelines and sheltered Kāneʻohe Bay reefs to deeper reef habitats around Lānaʻi. The aquarium also presents marine communities from across the South Pacific, making its collection broader than Hawaiʻi while retaining a clear Pacific focus. A living reef gallery highlights soft and stony corals and the ecosystems they support.

Several exhibits give the visit a particularly Hawaiian character. The Hawaiian Monk Seal Habitat houses rescued Hawaiian monk seals that cannot survive in the wild, while the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands gallery recreates a reef ecosystem from one of the most isolated island regions on Earth. Other exhibits feature giant clams, sea jellies, seahorses, seadragons, pipefishes, sharks, and reef predators. The result is a focused aquarium experience suited to travelers interested in Hawaiian marine habitats, coral reef ecology, and species found in the islands rather than a large international collection.
