Tiger sharks are striking to watch because their size and steady swimming make the aquarium feel like a much bigger piece of ocean. As one glides past the glass, look at how little effort seems to go into each movement. The tail sweeps from side to side while the body stays remarkably steady, with the fins making small adjustments along the way. Younger tiger sharks often show darker vertical markings that give them their name, while adults can become much more muted in color. A close view also reveals their broad head and distinctive snout, followed by rows of serrated teeth designed to handle a wide range of food. Tiger sharks are known for having an unusually varied diet, and their ability to investigate different kinds of prey is part of what makes them such adaptable ocean predators. In the wild, they occur in warm and temperate seas around the world, often moving through coastal waters.
