Edgewood, NM
A 122-acre wildlife refuge and nature park focused on rescued native New Mexico animals, with naturalistic habitats, birding and walking trails, and educational opportunities centered on the individual stories of resident wildlife.
Wildlife West Nature Park is a wildlife refuge and nature park in Edgewood, New Mexico, operated by the New Mexico Wildlife Association to support native wildlife through education, research, and animal care. The park's resident animals are non-releasable rescues, including wildlife that was injured, orphaned, or illegally kept as pets. Rather than presenting a broad international collection, Wildlife West concentrates on native New Mexico species and the stories behind individual animals.
The park is home to roughly 20 species of native wildlife, including cougars, black bears, grey foxes, bobcats, pronghorn, deer, and a variety of raptors. Habitats are accompanied by information about the animals, giving visitors context about their histories and why they live at the park. Birding and walking trails provide additional ways to explore the property, while a children's interactive trail adds a hands-on outdoor element. Guided tours are available by appointment, alongside self-directed visits. Wildlife West suits travelers interested in regional wildlife, rescue work, and a quieter nature park experience rather than a conventional zoo.
