A wooded animal park featuring domestic and exotic wildlife, with hands-on encounters in its Kiddie Zoo and additional activities that give the visit a more interactive character than a traditional zoo.
Pymatuning Deer Park is a family-owned animal park at the southern end of Pymatuning Lake, combining domestic and exotic animals with a wooded outdoor setting. Established in 1953, it has a longstanding local character and a more informal atmosphere than a large metropolitan zoo. The park's layout encourages visitors to stroll beneath a canopy of trees while encountering animals and birds from around the world.
Hands-on interaction is central to the experience, particularly in the Kiddie Zoo, where visitors can encounter baby animals and domestic farm animals and participate in petting and feeding opportunities. Feeding opportunities are also available elsewhere in the park. Children can take pony rides, while the Deer Park Express travels through the backwoods and provides opportunities to look for deer along the route. The park describes an average visit as taking at least an hour, making it suited to travelers looking for a relatively compact wildlife outing with interactive elements rather than an extensive, full-day zoo experience.
