Biomes Marine Biology Center

Biomes Marine Biology Center is a privately owned marine education facility in North Kingstown focused on the marine life of Narragansett Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Established as an educational program in 1989, it has developed into a hands-on aquarium with more than 100 exhibits and more than 150 species, including locally collected marine animals and rescued reptiles. Its compact, close-up displays emphasize animals found in Rhode Island's coastal waters rather than presenting a broad international aquarium collection.

Hands-on interaction is the defining feature of the visit. Ten touch tanks include sharks, stingrays, horseshoe crabs, tide-pool animals, and other marine life, while staff demonstrations cover subjects such as feeding behavior, adaptations, and habitats. Visitors can also see animals including octopuses, eels, skates, pufferfish, and seahorses. School programs use scavenger hunts, learning stations, and live animal demonstrations to build marine science skills. Biomes suits travelers who prefer an intimate, interactive aquarium experience centered on local marine life, direct animal encounters, and practical marine education.
