Sitka, AK
A raptor rehabilitation center and wildlife education destination in the Tongass National Forest, where visitors can meet resident birds, observe recovery work, and watch bald eagles practice flight before release.
Alaska Raptor Center combines wildlife rehabilitation, public education, and visitor experiences focused specifically on birds of prey. Set within the Tongass National Forest in Sitka, the center provides a chance to see injured raptors receiving care while learning about the work involved in returning rehabilitated birds to the wild. Its resident Avian Ambassadors also play a central role in educational programs about raptor natural history.
Visitors can walk forested trails, meet resident birds, and observe rehabilitation activities. A major feature is the Suzanne and Walter Scott Flight Training Center, where bald eagles recovering from injury can practice flying and rebuild strength before release. The collection includes representatives of several raptor groups, including eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, and ravens. The combination of active rehabilitation, resident ambassador birds, and flight training gives the center a very different character from a conventional zoo or aviary. It particularly suits travelers interested in Alaska's native wildlife and in seeing how veterinary care and rehabilitation support the return of injured birds to natural habitats.
