The tiger-striped leaf frog is a small amphibian that can be easy to miss until you notice its unusual pattern. Its body is adapted for life among leaves and vegetation, with markings that help break up its outline against a busy forest background. In a zoo or rainforest exhibit, look closely at stems, leaves, and shaded surfaces rather than expecting to find it sitting in an open space. Sticky toe pads allow the frog to grip smooth vegetation and climb with ease. During quiet periods, it may remain almost perfectly still, making its camouflage part of the experience. When it moves, the change is surprisingly quick. A careful hop or climb can reveal how well its body is suited to navigating the plants around it. Like many tropical frogs, it depends on moist environments and is closely associated with forest habitats where water is available for breeding.
