King Tiger Pleco

The king tiger pleco is a small armored catfish that rewards visitors who look closely at the bottom of an aquarium. Its dark body is crossed by pale, maze-like markings that stand out against driftwood and rocks, while bony plates protect much of the body. Rather than cruising through open water, it often clings to hard surfaces with its sucker-like mouth and moves slowly from one feeding spot to another. Watch the mouth as it works across wood or rock. The fish uses its specialized lips to scrape and graze surfaces, while its strong grip helps it hold on in flowing water. Its patterned tail and fins can become especially noticeable when the pleco turns or changes position. Like many plecos, it is most active when light levels are lower, so an aquarium visit around feeding time can reveal more movement than a quick daytime glance. Once you spot one tucked beneath a piece of driftwood, follow it for a few minutes. Its slow, deliberate exploration gives you a close look at the armor, markings, and specialized feeding tools that make this little river fish so distinctive.
